Jehovah Jireh

April 29th, 2006

In English the Hebrew name “Jehovah Jira” means–”the Lord will provide” and He certainly is true to His name. I was spending time with one of our high school girls yesterday afternoon and when I left our freezer looked like this:

As you can see there isn’t much. The ice box and ice trays, a piece of chicken, four frozen shrimp in the box, a loaf of pumpkin bread and half bag of frozen corn in the door. I mentioned in my last post that we aren’t exactly swimming in money which is why there’s more ice than food in the freezer. But I’ve been challenged to pray and be thankful no matter what being confident that the Lord will provide for all of our needs. When I came back the freezer was mysteriously full:

While I was out Bobby received a call from our church office asking him to relieve a fellow church member of too many gourmet meats. Apparently this person had been received a gift from Omaha Steaks but by mistake the company sent two boxes instead of one, the recipient didn’t want to the meats to go bad, but couldn’t fit them in their freezer. So they called the church office to see if anyone would want them and the office just happened to call Bobby. He said “yes” and was excited when he saw this huge box. It was full of top sirloin steaks, pork chops, gourmet franks, potatoes, and two kinds of burgers and a dish with scallops and crab meat and even a box of filet mignons. After I came home and was beside myself to see all this food in my freezer I was even more surprised to see that it didn’t even stop there. The box also included a cutting board, cutlery set and cookbook! What an amazing gift from the Lord, I never could have even imagined such a great blessing!

“Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
And for His wonderful works to the children of men.
For He satisfies the longing soul,
And fills the hungry with goodness.”
Psalm 107:8-9

    Christa,
That was so funny! We were in shock that you had so much meat…and how random that someone has TOO MUCH meat! haha. The Lord provides our every need :)

I love how you completed the story with pictures. I guess beef is what’s for dinner at your place. I love to hear it, God is taking care of you and Bobby and Tyler. :)

I love how you’ve been talking about God satisfying your physical needs lately. It’s such a wonderful testimony that people don’t often share! I was in the office when we got the call about the meat, and I tried to claim it, but I guess you guys got dibs. (NOTE TO READERS: this is meant humorously; I’m a vegetarian.) But seriously, you both have the right perspective on focusing on the Lord at all times and putting faith in His promises. Thank you for being vulnerable enough to show how God is at work in your lives!

    Christa,
Dawn’s mom here…I know this is a week late, we were in Canada, with no computer.
Praise God for His provision!!! It brought tears to my eyes to really see (thanks to the pics) God taking care of His children. What an encouragement :) Thanks for sharing
