Life with the little guy…
Tyler is just over a year now and I just don’t see how life with him could get any better, but somehow it does! Over the weekend, Tyler started letting go and taking two or three steps toward one of us to catch him, so that has been fun!
These days his big thing is communicating. He does some signs to us and says many words now. I think the sign I see most is “eat”–he must be going through a growth spurt because he’s always hungry! The words he says most are, of course, “da-da” and “daddy”. It’s so funny because he says “hi” and “bye-bye” to everyone he sees. He also recently started saying “Ty” (my husband’s best friend’s name who we named Tyler after) and we’ve been in the store and a dark-haired guy will walk by and Tyler will yell, “Ty!” It is so fun to watch him grow and learn so many new things, life is just so great with this little guy!
I’m not at all trying to paint an unrealistic picture to my friends who read this and don’t have children yet. But I wish somehow I could give a better perspective about the joy of being a parent more than just saying, “The headache is all worth it in the end.” He is such a gift and every day is so sweet with him because if he’s happy I really enjoy that, if he’s sad I can comfort him, if he’s sick I get to take care of him, if he’s fussy I get to train him to have a better attitude…I’m so thankful that the Lord is letting us have this gift each day!
“Every good and perfect gift is from above,
coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights,
who does not change like shifting shadows.”
James 1:17

What a sweet post Christa! Tyler is so cute! I feel the same way about my kids, it just keeps getting better. All my kids have gone through the saying “Hi” to everyone stage. It’s pretty funny sometimes.
That is great that you have taught him to sign some things. I think that helps prevent some whining.

Just wait till he starts giving you an attitude…. in about 6 months.
Just kidding. Age 5 is where it really all begins in terms of the attitude. (I can only say this seeing it in my nephew who is now 7 and the attitude is horrible!)

I TOTALLY know how you feel about not wanting to paint an unrealistic picture, but truly LOVING your child and wanting the whole world to hear it. Just today at lunch, I told Judah my life would be so boring without him. I had no idea what I was missing when I was just Dawn the Wife. Of course, I love being a wife FIRST…but motherhood definitely adds to the joy of life!
And to think…I’m about to have TWO. Can a heart hold anymore love???

Christa, I’m here from The Upward Call after appreciating your insight and comment on her recent post regarding the import of young moms being properly sharpened and encouraged in the Word.
I’m a fellow devotee of The Excellent Wife and will be returning to read your posts. I thank God for young women like yourself who demonstrate a persevering faith in the sound doctrine of God’s Word.
And your son is a darling!

Christa, I have to agree with your last paragraph. Even though our son will be 25 next month, I still love each ‘season’ of life we go through with him. When I see your pics of Tyler it transports me back in time to my season of being a stay-at-home mom. It is such a joy. I cannot stress enough to enjoy every single minute of this wonderful gift which the Lord has blessed you with. Of course, I know I don’t need to tell you that!
