A Great Day
Yesterday was a great day! Tyler woke up at 6:20 and would not go back to sleep so by 9:30 our day was in full swing and since my normal Women’s Bible Study did not meet I took Tyler up to Disneyland for a few hours. It was one of the most fun times we’ve had there! One of his favorite rides right now is the Tea Cups and we even got to say “hi” to Pooh and Eeyore so he was a happy little guy!
Tonight Compass hosted our annual Fall Fest in the parking lots of main local shopping area. It was a huge event with rides, bounce houses, Carl’s Junior trucks and it was all free! There must have been a few thousand people there throughout the night and I was encouraged as I heard some stories of people asking for information about our church and one lady told me she got to share the gospel with someone while she waited in line for dinner.
You can see some highlights of our day here!
This month I’ve been studying Psalm 119 in my quiet times and the passage I read today gave just an amazing perspective on the fortitude of God’s Word.
89 Your word, O LORD, is eternal;
it stands firm in the heavens.90 Your faithfulness continues through all generations;
you established the earth, and it endures.91 Your laws endure to this day,
for all things serve you.92 If your law had not been my delight,
I would have perished in my affliction.93 I will never forget your precepts,
for by them you have preserved my life.94 Save me, for I am yours;
I have sought out your precepts.95 The wicked are waiting to destroy me,
but I will ponder your statutes.96 To all perfection I see a limit;
but your commands are boundless.
Verses 91 and 96 really stand out to me–
V. 91 “…For all things serve You.” This really made me think of Colossians 1:16-17 where Paul says that all things were created by Him and for Him and “in him all things hold together.” This is profound because so many people think they can live their life completely isolated from God when really He is giving them life and breath and each day whether they will acknowledge Him as Lord or not does not change the reality that He is Lord and all things were created by Him and serve Him. This is a high view of God.
V. 96 “To all perfection I see a limit; but your commands are boundless.” One commentary I read said that this verse is the summary of the book of Ecclesiastes. All earthly “perfection” comes to a meaningless end. Only in God and His commands are we set free from these limits. I thought this made a powerful point because we often see commands as burdens and bondage. But that is all wrong, being out of control left only to our sinful whims is a miserable life of slavery to self. Another slavery people are in is to religious systems setting up rules in an attempt to earn acceptance from God. It’s so refreshing how 1 John 5:2-4 says that when we put ourselves under God’s authority and commands we can actually experience victory over sin and self. It says, “This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome.” God’s commands are boundless. This is a high view of God’s Word.
It was a great day but life is not enjoyable without confidence in God and His Word. Nothing compares with knowing Him!

I’m a regular reader and infrequent commenter, but HAD to comment on this post!
First, what fun to be able to drive “up to Disneyland”!!! This fall we took our girls to Disneyworld and that was a 10 day adventure for us (four days on the road!!).
Second, I love Psalm 119! My husband has been preaching through it verse-by-verse every opportunity he gets (he’s an elder at our church) and I’m just thrilled with the high view of God and His Word we see there.
Thanks for your substantive posts!!

At lunch today I had a conversation with four people who have a low to non-existant view of God. One guy seemed fine with spending eternity in Hell in order to avoid truly dealing with what to expect in the future. Another was shocked to find out that Christianity was “so simple, almost too easy,” yet still he was not interested in submitting his life to the Lord. It’s wonderful to know that our eyes have been opened to the truth… please pray for me as I try to share this truth with others!

This post spoke perfectly to me at this moment (why should I be surprised when God’s word does that?). Thank you, Christa, for your words here.
Oh, and we used to live close enough to hop over to the big D for the afternoon. Being a Teacup girl myself, I understand the compulsion to spin oneself silly in the things!

I love the comments you shared on Psalm 119. Particularly about how the whole world is held together by Christ…they don’t acknowledge Him, but He still gives them life, breath & soooo much common grace. I also love the reminder that His commands are not burdensome…if left to ourselves, it’s sickening to think where we would be, and where we often are, when we don’t submit to His WONDERFUL Law.
