Hi! I've just come across your blog via a book review you wrote on Captivating by the Eldredges which you must have written some time back. I live in Australia and have friends who are obsessed with the Eldredges. They travel to America about once or twice a year to attend their conferences and the woman gave me one of the Eldredges' books to read. I couldn't get past the first page. I found it empty and focussed on self rather than on Spirit. They were coming to our house for lunch and it was time for me to return her book and give her a critique. I knew she wasn't ready for actual criticism and I hadn't read the book (and I'm a bookworm). So I flicked through and read bits from random pages. The first page I turned to talked about his wife being a 'goddess'. I felt sickened and couldn't read any more.
When I tried searching on the name Eldredge, I could only find absolute adoration and a cult following. So I was so glad to read your excellent review considering that you actually made it through the book. It is a confirmation of all that I felt in my spirit about it. Thanks for that. I've bookmarked it. Now to figure out how to approach these friends. Lots of prayer will have to go into it first I imagine. Oh, by the way, Lord of Lords by Brooke Fraser is my all time favorite worship song. I can play and replay it for a whole hour in the car while I'm driving sometimes!

Amen and amen! In our Bible study we are using Nancy Guthrie's book "Hoping for Something Better" as we study the book of Hebrews. She makes the point that when the author of Hebrews encourages us to "pay much closer attention" he is saying to be "furiously obsessed with." A furious obsession has no room for sluggish lethargy!

Whew. That was good to read today of all days. And the other thing to remember is that when we do get back on track with spiritual nutrition, Satan is always there with an attack. Which requires extra Food!
